KAPPA -Health addressed Biomedical SMEs about Key Success factors in Hannover

Date: 13/10/2009

The KAPPA Health project has presented its recommendations in Hannover at the occasion of Biomedica Fair on 7 October 2009.

The presentations were hold in an open symposium in collaboration with the Region of Baden-Württemberg.

10 research intensive SMEs and other organisations as well as the European Commission were present at this presentation.
After a short introduction of the project and the presentation of some already identified "Key Performance Factors" (KPF) by Hartmut Welck from SEZ, Dr. Zürbig from the SME "Mosaiques Diagnostics" presented the company and what they considered their "Key performance Factors" for the EU FP 6 project “Predictions”.

According to Dr Zürbig , among major "Key Performance Factors" that help turning a participation in a EU financed Research project into a commercial success, these are very important:

  1. the project must be in the core activity of the company
  2. the projects prepared with the support of an expert or a consultant are more successful
  3. a second project is often more successful than the first one
  4. a combination of internal fund and private funding have to be preferred

Those KPFs were in line with the ones identified through the KAPPA-project.

Patrik Frei from Venture Valuation gave an insight into the possibilities to acquire finances and funds in the lifecycle of a company.

From the SMEs this possibility was warmly welcomed:
Mosaiques Diagnostics commented : “This was a great opportunity to present the results of our EU project “Predictions” at the fair Biotechnica.”

BIOTECHNICA in Hannover embraces every segment of biotechnology - from basic biotechnology and equipment, bio-informatics and services to the five major areas of application: pharmaceuticals/medicine, industry, food, agriculture, the chemical industry and the environment.
